More ways for customers to connect

Google Business Profile was an underused customer acquisition channel. By improving the profile and making better use of its features, I created more ways for customers to discover the business, explore its products and get in touch.

01 / The challenge

A local discovery channel with more potential to unlock.

When businesses think about SEO, they usually focus on ranking their website. But for retailers, especially those with physical locations, Google Maps and Google Business Profile play a major role in how customers find and contact them.

The business sold products people were actively searching for, but its profile wasn’t doing much to support product discovery, engagement or local visibility.

The objective was to make it easier for customers to find the business, explore its products and take the next step.

02 / Strategy & execution

Turning an overlooked profile into a customer discovery channel.

  1. 01

    Made the profile more active

I began publishing regular Google Business Profile posts, keeping the profile active and giving customers relevant information about the business and its products. The posts also created more chances to showcase products to people discovering the business through Google.

  2. 02

    Expanded product visibility

Instead of treating the profile as a basic listing, I used its product features to support discovery and began adding products to the profile’s product listings. The strategy gave about 70% of the focus to the wider catalogue and 30% to the top 10 best sellers, making more of the range visible to people exploring the profile.

  3. 03

    Strengthened engagement and reviews

A strong online reputation influences whether someone buys. I worked on customer engagement initiatives that encouraged customers to share their experiences and leave reviews, supported by email communication that kept customers connected to the brand after their first purchase. The wider initiative generated more than 150 new Google reviews, adding social proof for people finding the business online.

03 / The results

Meaningful next steps from local search.

The Google Business Profile recorded 3,460 interactions, and many were meaningful next steps rather than passive views:

  • 981 customers clicked through to the website.
  • 398 customers called the business directly.
  • 96 customers started a chat.
  • 150+ new Google reviews strengthened the business’s reputation and gave prospective buyers more experiences to read.

These results show the role local search visibility and reputation can play in customer acquisition.

04 / What this project demonstrates

Your website isn’t the only place customers find you.

For retailers, especially those with physical locations, Google Business Profile is another way to get discovered and turn search activity into enquiries.

This project reflects how I approach growth marketing: looking beyond the obvious channels. Sometimes the biggest opportunity isn’t another ad campaign or social media strategy. It’s an existing platform the business hasn’t fully used.
